President Thomas Klincar
Welcome to our college. Here you will discover an entrepreneurial spirit passed down from the first settlers of Quincy and the surrounding communities. The people you find within John Wood Community College aspire to do more, be more. Our namesake John Wood created a legacy that began with a pioneer spirit, flourished as a craftsman and farmer, then founded our main campus’ host community of Quincy before becoming a statesman as mayor of Quincy, then governor of Illinois. The qualities that distinguished John Wood can be found in every one of us. John Wood dared to dream, and then he worked to make his dreams real.
John Wood, as our community’s college, offers to help you achieve your dreams. We invest in people by conveying knowledge, skills, and competencies to advance services, business, agriculture, and industry throughout our region. Unlike many other institutions of higher education, John Wood Community College tailors education and training programs to meet the needs of the communities, businesses, and industries we serve. Day, evening, weekend, and distance learning classes allow you to attend college on your terms—and more affordably than any other college in the area.
I encourage you to explore our programs, discover our strengths, and look upon John Wood Community College as your gateway to career opportunity and beyond. When you make community college your first choice, you’ll be in good company: community colleges enroll 46% of all US undergraduate students, 50% of first generation college students, 50% of future teachers, 60% of new nurses, and 80% of first responders. Most of our graduates make their careers here close to home.
Community college is good for everyone—not just for our students and graduates, but for the communities in which they live and work. Invest in your future. Become a part of John Wood Community College and make our community’s success your own.
